North wharf point
waterfront design
At the end of the North Wharf in Melbourne’s Docklands, the project was to design a mixed-use building to attract people to the area and allow interaction with the waterfront.
Because of its location 10 mins walk from the rest of Docklands, it needed to be a target destination.
Make it stand out
We settled on a program of a waterfront market (accessible by ferry), a boat building and education centre (where people can learn transferable woodworking skills), with a gallery space to display their work or exhibit art.
At the end of the wharf is a sensory garden, filled with native mangroves and interactive water sculptures. This leads off toward the Bolte Bridge which, along with the existing former harbor control tower, would have artwork projected onto its surfaces making it a significant landmark.
